All I can say about this movie is 🤮. Before January 26th I have never really watched a movie like this. There were a multitude of bad things with this movie with the occasional good. In this blog I am going to write a review with me starting with all of the bad things and critiques that I have in the first part of the essay and the I will move to the few things that I thought were good later in the blog. Enjoy.
First and most importantly, this movie made absolutely no sense. When the movie first started I thought "ok the mom died and he has a stepmom now, let's see what he does with his life." The movie had parts like this for maybe 20 minutes of the movie and then the boy goes into another demention? Like, that's the thing, where did he go? Is it another world or the after life? I honestly could not tell you. Then throughout the movie weird things came up in the movie like the white blobs. What were those? It seems as if they had nothing to do with the ending of the movie. Also, another part that didn't make sense was when the boy went through what looked like the golden gates of heaven . He entered through them and then got yelled at and didn't return to them. Unless the final scene was his return to them. But like I said I don't know because everything about this movie was so veig. Another example of parts being confusing is the area of a bunch of columns where they walked across multiple times. Is that a portal or something else. Also, the characters in this movie were so confusing. I found myself several times leaning over to Noah and asking questions about who is who. For example, I didn't know which women was his step mom and which one was his real mom. Also, I don't understand why the real mom didn't just go with them through the door. I believe she said something about how it's not her time but it's like. What do you mean it's not your time? You're right there ready to leave. What is the world is the deal with the blocks. You have to stack them to hold the world together or something? It's stuff like this that make the movie seem as the whole thing was just rushed. It's almost like they just threw things in the story to make in longer. Anyway, that is my rant on my first few problems with this movie. Another problem that I had with this movie was the screenplay. Everything looked glitchy. Now I'm not sure if it was the move theatre or the film but it was one of the two. The point is, at some point (mostly when it was panning down) it seemed as if the screen was running on 10 fps. The screen over here looking like a PS3 with no wifi. I understand that the artists have to draw each individual frame but if your going to put a movie on a world stage for everyone to see I feel like it would be essential to put in that extra bit of work that is required to make the frames flow smoothy. This movie is called The Boy and the Heron but in my opinion the Heron really didn't have much to do with the story. I mean yeah he went from what looked like an evil character to a nice guy that helped him find his moms but I feel like this story was more related the boy and the mom. Right now I am starting a petition for a new title: The Boy and His Search for His Moms. Ah there we go much better. Also, with the Heron. I didn't understand how the bird could swallow his own face and then regurgitate it. Also, how does a hole in the beak disable all the powers of the heron. This whole movie was just filled with wild stuff man. Alrighty, we are to the part that all of you are looking forward to. The good parts! I want to start off by saying that the animation is absolutely beautiful. The fact that people actually drew every single scene is crazy. I looked this movie up on google and it said that this movie took anywhere from 7-10 years to make. This just shows the level of dedication that it took to make this movie. Personally, I wouldn't have spent 7-10 years of my life to make a garbage movie but that's just me. I do respect the dedication though. Also, one part that was satisfying to watch it the blood come out from the boys head and the guts come out of the fish. Beautiful animation. The only part where I will give the creators of this movie credit is there writing of the story between the boy and the heron. It was interesting to see the boy at first hate the bird and see him as an evil character to then seeing him as a bird that was there to help him with his journey. That and what I mentioned in the first few sentences of the fond paragraph are the only parts that made sense. Everything else needs to be clarified. Anyway, that's my review on The Boy and the Heron. As you can see it is definitely not a good movie in my eyes but hey! You never know what your like until you see if for yourself. I encourage you to go out and watch it and write your own blog about it. I would love to see what other people think about this movie. 2/10.

I usually watch movies with my dad but this week I changed it up and had a mommy and son movie night. I thought Me Before You was brilliantly developed. It was an amazing production choice to slowly have William become nicer and nicer to Louisa. Also in this movie there is a passing of time overlayed by music and I am a sucker for music scenes. This obviously resonated with me the most. I also like how the producer didn't just show the successes of Louisa, instead he shows her mistakes and how she dealt with them.
It was nice to see William give the very rare occasional laugh and smile seeing as it was evidence of progress with their relationship. However, it was sad to see the movie end on a sad note with the death of William. I know he was in a lot of pain but it almost seemed like the wrong time to kill the relationship between the two of them because it was thriving. Overall I thought this movie was pretty good 8/10. This weekend I realised that I forgot to write about Hacksaw Ridge which was my favorite movie out of the midterm movies that I watched. This movie was honestly amazing. Everything was done to perfection and the amount of sacrifice that Desmond had was unmatched. It is truly an inspiring movie because of the fact that it is a true story. It gives me a sense of what the people that fight for our lives actually go through.
Just recently I saw a quote from a book that said, a non-fiction book shows everything exactly how it was during the time. Leaving nothing out and not adding anything in. Now, I know this wasn't a book but I believe the same concept is applied to movies. Mel Gibson includes gore (and a lot of it) not only to show what it was like back then but also to not leave anything out from the story line. Over all, this movie is an amazing movie that is the embodiment of courage and what the soldiers that fight for our country go through. I know I know, "Challenge yourself with the movies you watch" I'm very sorry but this weekend I was very busy and I had plans to watch the movie Resistance after I watched Big Hero 6 but I just couldn't find time to do it. Anyway, I thought this movie was pretty good. It was a little annoying how they started the movie on a sad note with the death of Tadashi. However, i really liked the plot of the movie. It was fun to see Hiro gather his group of friends to fight against his own creation.
Another part of the movie that I really liked were the gadgets that each person in the resistance force had. It was pretty satisfying watching each of then use their gadgets especially in the final battle. Also, much like the start of the movie, they ended the movie on a sad note with the death of Baymax. Because of the start and the end I am going to have to give this movie a 7/10 because I'm not a huge fan of sad movies. However, if you are fine with sad movies I recommend this movie. I re-watched the first Die Hard before Christmas and after Christmas I was bored and I wanted to watch a movie with my dad. He asked if I wanted to watch the die hard series and that we did. I only got to the 4th one but I have to say that my favorite is Die Hard With a Vengeance. While seeing this movie, I thought it was so fun to watch the villain's evil plan go down to get all the gold in the building. I thought it was a great producing choice have the viewers know exactly what is happening while the good guys don't. It is fun to see the good guys figure everything out.
One part that in my opinion stands out is the riddle that the bad guy sets up for the good guys. If you have a 3 gallon jug and a 5 gallon jug, how do you put exactly 4 gallons in the 5 gallon. While watching this I actually paused the movie and tried to figure it out myself. Regardless, the movie is filled with stuff like this and should be watched by any action/thriller junkie. |
